Simple steps for Documenting your research and sources:

Give yourself plenty of time
Take notes on what resources you are using
Use My Lists or My Folder functions in the library catalog and the databases
Use tools like Zotero or functions within Microsoft Word
Keep your materials organized
Make notes on whether you are using a quote or paraphrasing

MICROSOFT WORD

1. Microsoft Word has in-built citation tools.

Here is a brief guide to using it. You can also import your Zotero citations into Microsoft Word.

2. First Step: References on Toolbar

First go to REFERENCES on the Tool Bar and Select a Style.

3. Manage Sources

Next add your resources under MANAGE SOURCES

4. Insert Citations

Then when you need to add a citation to your paper go to INSERT CITATION. It will add it to the Footnote if you are doing that style.

5. Bibliography

Once you are finished and ready to add your bibliography (which is normally towards the end of your paper).

Start a New Page then click on Insert Bibliography. You can edit the bibliography as needed.
