Why would I want to find articles?
The article publishing process can be much faster than that of book publishing, lending articles to cover contemporary ideas, share recent findings, etc. Keep in mind not all information can be found in books.
What kind of articles are there?
Not every article every written is available freely online. Some are not available online at all, some require payment to view, and others are free to anyone. Not all articles are created equal - some are reviewed by peers while others are not.
Open access (OA) journals are scholarly publications that are available without fee or subscription requirement and in some cases, permission (copyright, licensing, etc.) barriers are also removed. Open access journals are free to the public, but sometimes there are fees involved in the publication, which might be passed on to the author, or subsidized by an institution, for example.
Peer-reviewed journals indicates each article was subject to scrutiny of others who are experts in the same field before the work is published. The research, scholarly work, or ideas is what is reviewed.
Double-blind peer-review indicates that the identifies of both the author and reviewer are concealed from the reviewers and vice versa through the review process.
