Information Literacy Program at Decker Library

A toolkit for MICA's Information Literacy Program

Instruction Process A-Z

Receive Instruction Request

Via Personal Email:

Via Reference email (refer@mica.edu):

Receive Instruction Requests for Required Courses

  • Required Courses (Art Matters, Modernism and After, Critical Inquiry, Drawing: Tradition and Innovation, and any other Foundation classes) will be assigned by the Information Literacy and Instructional Design Librarian. They will update the calendar and let the faculty member know they have been scheduled. The assigned librarian will receive a calendar invite from Calendly.
  • When the assigned librarian receives the calendar invite, they should take the following steps:
    • Invite the Library Classroom (libraryclassrom@mica.edu) calendar to the request
    • Follow up with the faculty member to confirm the instruction information:
      • Is it connected to an assignment?
      • When is the assignment due?
      • Ask students to bring laptops if possible
      • Any other information that they might need
    • If the Instructor indicates that they have students who require ADA/disability accommodations, the Information Literacy and Instructional Design Librarian will send the following email:
      • Dear ____,

You indicated on the Instruction Request form that you have one or more students  with ADA/disability accommodations. Please make Katey Earle and the instructor (both copied on this email) for the class aware of any accommodations we should make for the student(s).

        Thank you!
        Siân

Prepare Instruction Session

Use this guide and/or the Instruction Google Drive Folder, which has archived instruction sessions and example Handouts. Feel free to reach out to the Information Literacy and Instructional Design Librarian for ideas and/or lesson plans.

Post-Instruction Session

Immediately after the class ends, the librarian should fill out the instruction assessment form.

At the end of the semester, the Information Literacy and Instructional Design will send an email to all faculty who received instruction throughout the semester reminding them to evaluate their instruction session(s): http://bit.ly/facultylibeval
